Cento sta a quindici come quarantasei sta a x.
Ho visto passare un uomo con un armadio sulla schiena. Ancorato, allacciato.
Livella, per cortesia. Tieni.
Pomelli e decori gialli camminano ondeggiando. Un’anta salta ad ogni sbalzo del terreno, socchiudendosi. Fondo rivestito di carta sbiadita. Glie l’avrà
portato in dote la moglie? Un signor legno. Di certo di così robusti non se ne fanno più.
Misura la lunghezza delle zampe. Meno dieci. Possiamo rubarne due lì.
L’uomo è chinato in avanti. Non si vede quasi più. C’è solo una linea. Un pezzo di strada.
Siamo a zero. Vediamo se regge.
Guarda, è sempre più sdraiato sul dorso. Si riposa sulle sue spalle.
Dovrebbe forse cadere lungo disteso sulla faccia? Via di lì adesso. Parto.

One hundred is to fifteen as forty-six is to x.
I saw a man pass by with a wardrobe on his back. It was anchored, fastened.
Level, please. Take this.
Door-knobs and yellow decorations walk swaying. A door jumps at each bump in the ground, opening slightly. Its inner back is covered in faded paper.
Wasit maybe his wife who brought it to him as a dowry? Superb wood indeed. They certainly don’t make things that sturdy any more.
Measure the length of the paws. Ten short. We can shave two off here.
The man is bent over forward. He is almost completely out of sight now. There is just a line.
A piece of road.
We’re at zero now. Let’s see if it holds up.
Look, it’s lying on its back more and more. It’s resting on its shoulders.
Should it fall headlong instead? Get away from there now. Off I go.
