Secondo la teoria di Edward Lorenz (noto matematico tra i fondatori della meteorologia moderna e pioniere della teoria del caos) un piccolo accadimento può determinare una serie di variazioni esterne a catena fino a generare un grande fenomeno o una catastrofe. Così anche un semplice battito d’ali di una farfalla, può innescare il movimento di molecole d’aria che a loro volta possono causare a distanza una sequenza di movimenti di altre molecole fino a scatenare un uragano.
In Butterfly Effect, prima mostra personale dell’artista presso la Paolo Maria Deanesi Gallery di Rovereto, Donato Piccolo indaga con strumenti tecnologici e meccanici – secondo una pratica che lo contraddistingue nel panorama artistico internazionale – fenomeni naturali, fisici, biologici e le facoltà sia cognitive che percettive dell’essere umano, per scatenare emozioni e riflessioni che si collocano su un confine immaginario che divide o accomuna l’arte e la scienza. E’ la teoria della catastrofe che forse ritrova un senso, è il disordine o un evento apparentemente casuale che trova un suo ordine, un fine che giustifica il perché delle nostre percezioni sensoriali e delle nostre reazioni anche emotive.

According to the theory of Edward Lorenz, a famous mathmetician who was one of the founders of modern meteorology and a pioneer in the chaos theory, a tiny action can determine a series of external chain reactions to the point of generating a large phenomenon or a catastrophe. Even the simple flapping of a butterfy's wings can start the moments of air molecules that then can later cause a sequence of movements of other molecules until a hurricane is triggered.
In Butterfly Effect, the first solo show by the artist at Paolo Maria Deanesi Gallery in Rovereto, Donato Piccolo uses technological and mechanical instruments to explore - according to a practice that puts him on an international art level - natural, physical and biological phenomena and the cognitive activity that perceives for human beings in order to stimulate emotions and reflections that are found at an imagined edge that divides or unites art and science. It is the theory of catastrophe that might make sense. It is the disorder or an apparently accidental event that finds its order and an end that justifies the reasons behind our sensorial perceptions and reactions, including emotions.
